Gulargambone is located 45km South of Coonamble on the Castlereagh Highway and Quambone 57km North-West of Coonamble. Both are accessible by sealed road.
It takes approximately 6 hours to drive from Sydney either via Mudgee, or via Dubbo and approximately 2 hours to drive to Coonamble from Dubbo. There are regular daily flights into Dubbo with either Regional Express www.rex.com.au or QANTAS www.qantas.com.au and cars can be hired from Dubbo Airport.
PASSENGER COACH SERVICES
A Countrylink bus service operates daily from Lightning Ridge through Coonamble to Dubbo to connect with the XPT rail service to Sydney and return. Golsby’s Garage in Coonamble is the booking agent for Countrylink or visit http://www.countrylink.info/
This daily service also stops in Gulargambone.
There are two private taxis in Coonamble. Hours of operation are from 7.30am to late seven days per week. Special arrangements can be made for after hours or out of town trips.
Four companies provide general road freight to and from Coonamble each weekday out of Dubbo. These include SMS, Tamex, TNT, and Wynne’s Transport.
Coonamble Shire Council owns a fully licensed aerodrome which they maintain to maximum CASA Standards. The airport is 3 kilometres from Coonamble Post Office. The aerodrome is very user-friendly as the surrounding terrain is relatively flat with no obstacles to create turbulence and because Coonamble is a low air traffic area. The aerodrome has never been taken out of service due to floods and is trafficable in all weather. There are currently no passenger services operating following the withdrawal of AIRLINK services in late 2008.
